The Friends of the 261 finally were able to purchase the locomotive in May, 2010 for $225,000 from the National Railroad Museum, keeping it in Minneapolis and returning it to operation upon its rebuild. On September 29, 2012, 261 was test fired and ran under its own power once again. In April 2013, it successfully operated a test train on the Twin Cities and Western Railroad. It ran normally from Minneapolis, and then operated tender-first back to Minneapolis. -Wikipedia
