CAF Airpower History Tour
The B-17G Flying Fortress known as "Sentimental Journey" arrived on Monday, August 5th around 4 PM. I wasn't able to meet it at Hector airport but I did watch the tracking on Flightaware.com and photographed it as it flew around Fargo. The B-29 Superfortress known as "Fifi" landed at noon on August 8th. Bob and I watched it come in from a position at the entrance to the NDSU test field, which is right on the glide path to the runaway. We missed the arrival of the CAF (Commemorative Air Force) B-24 that morning.
Thursday evening Bob and I watched the B-17G fly over Newman Field for the Redhawk's military appreciation day game.
I went to the Hector Field overlook park on Saturday. I caught the B-29 taking off and it's fly over for the Fargo Air Museum's 10 AM ground breaking dedication for their Beck-Odegaard Wing addition. Sunday morning I was too early for the first airplane take offs. I came back later at 4 PM and caught the take off, fly-over, and landing of the B-17G.
