The Universal Carrier (Model U.C.) is a light track type reconnaissance and combat vehicle. Speed and maneuverability are characteristic. W/T equipment provides intercommunication. It is powered with an 85-H.P. V-8 engine, and the power is transmitted to the tracks through standard clutch, a four speed transmission, and a conventional type rear axle with sprockets used in place of wheels. Steering is accomplished by lateral movement of the front bogie assembly for initial steering, and braking of either sprocket To stop the track for the second stage of steering, both of which are accor pushed by the turning of the steering wheel. The hull is of bullet-proof plate closely fitted for projection against bullet splash and riveted at all joints.
