Pennsylvania Bldg, 600 Snow Engine, Map Location 06.

This engine was built in 1914, and was installed in Roystone Station, PA. It was used to compress natural gas to build up pressure in a pipeline. The engine is a two cylinder double acting tandem, with an attached compressor, and it uses dual-ignition with 9 igniters and burns propane. Bore 14 inch, Stoke 48 inch, Flywheel 18 feet in diameter, weighs 24 tons, Main frame weighs 36 tones, crankshaft weighs 12 tons, total engine weight is 140 tons. The foundation for this engine consists of 157 yards of concrete with 8,000 feet of reinforcing rod and is up to 7 1/2 feet thick. This engine was donated to WMTR in 1992 by National Fuels, and was assembled over a 3 year period using thousands of volunteer labor hours. -sign
