A P-51 Mustang fighter crashed Wednesday, July 18, 1990, killing pilot Kermit LaQuey, 58, and Christopher Barnes, 35. LaQuey was chief pilot for the Planes of Fame Air Museum, which displays 23 military airplanes, almost all from World War II, at Flying Cloud Airport in suburban Minneapolis. Dick Rutan, co-pilot of the first aircraft to fly non-stop around the world without refueling, was piloting a second plane, but did not witness Wednesday's accident, authorities said.
