On 31 October 1517, Martin Luther is said to have posted his 95 Theses in Latin on this very door in order to debate his propositions with scholars.. The old wooden door Theses Door was lost when All Saints' Church (Castle Church) was destroyed by a large fire in 1760. In 1858, King Frederick William IV of Prussia funded the bronze door bearing the Latin theses which can be seen nowadays.
