While I was working behind the screen on my Dell Inspiron 6000, I also fixed the left hinge. I drilled the 'paddle' holes out with an 1/8 inch bit. Then using a slightly bigger screw/bolt (metric) from my stock of computer odds and ends, I forced the screws into the aluminuum block behind. I got a nice tight connection. Now the screen no longer flops around.
