Cougar - felis concolor

Also called puma, mountain lion or catamount, cougars are the largest of the quot;small catsquot; measuring nearly 9 feet including tail and with up to 300 lbs. They range from Canada to Argentina and are the largest cats in the Americas.
Cougars prey mostly on large mammals, especially deer, but also eat coyotes, porcupines, beavers, mice, marmots hares, raccoons, birds and grasshoppers. Usually silent, cougars can produce many calls, including screams, hisses and growls. Like all small cats, they cannot roar.
Young are usually born in mid-summer (gestation is 82-98 days). The young weigh about 14 ox. and the 1-6 cubs are born with spots.

Fun Fact: Cougars hold the high jumping record in the animal kingdom - 18 feet straight up!
