Bobcat - Lynx rufus

Range: Most of the United States and Mexico.
Bobcats are solitary, nocturnal cats that usually weight between 15-35 pounds. Also called the Bay Lynx, they have short inconspicuous ear tufts and short, black-tipped tails. These cats normally live in the rimrock and chaparral areas of the West, and swamps and forest in the East. They feed on small mammals and birds. Normally two young are born, usually int eh spring. Bobcats are probably beneficial in the population control of some small mammals and are hunted for their fur.
