Golden Pheasant (Chrysolophus pictus). Range: Mountains of eastern Asia. Golden Pheasant are the most beautiful of all pheasants. The cock has golden-red underparts, great and black glossed upper parts and a golden crest. Females are drab and brownish. Large and stout, their flight is limited to short distances on small rounded wings. Roosting in trees, these birds feed mainly on seeds and berries but will eat almost anything. Their strong naked feet are used to scratch for food. Like all ornate birds, the males entertain a harem of hens with elaborate courtship rituals.
