Grizzly Bear - Ursus arctos
Named for its long, silver tipped hairs on its back, this large bear is found in the mountain regions of Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and Washington, and throughout Canada and Alaska.
More than seventy-five percent of a grizzly bear's diet is vegetation. The remainder is animal matter. At the zoo their diet consist of a grain based custom feed, vegetables, and fish.
Grizzly bears have long curved claws to dig up roots and bulbs. These also help to excavate dens.
