Sean The Spider Monkey

Sean The Spider Monkey

Photo by Tim Dobbins. Plaque reads, "Black Handed Spider Monkey - Ateles geoffroyi

Spider monkeys are a new world monkey living in troops from 10 to 30 animals. Being very agile, they are able to swing through the trees as fast as a man running on the ground.
Their prehensile tail acts as a "fifth hand" in grasping limbs and food. It being so sensitive that it can pick up a pea, in fact the monkey's hands are awkward in comparison.
Longevity--20 years. (South American)

Fun Fact: Spider monkeys often hold tails instead of hands."
